Messages from Antarctica Exhibition
In 2015, YPASM collaborated with the Department of Museums Malaysia (JMM) to make 49 life-sized sculptures of Emperor penguins, which were used as an attraction tool to raise awareness on the threat of sea levels rise and increase of global temperatures to Malaysia. The number “49” was chosen to symbolize Malaysia’s accession to the Antarctic Treaty System. The sculptures were designed by 25 volunteers during a workshop on sculpting techniques held at the National Museum. These 49 emperor penguins, along with 10 infographic panels about issues related to Antarctica and hands-on activities constituted the main exhibits of the roadshow that has since graced the precincts of the National Museum, the National Zoo, the Natural History Museum Putrajaya, the Raja Tun Uda Library Shah Alam, Drawbridge Gallery Kuala Terengganu, the Terengganu Science and Creativity Centre and several scientific fairs, expositions and arts and culture festival in the country.
